What should I ask guests to bring as gifts for a "Stock the Bar Party"?
I am throwing a "Stock the Bar" party for a couple that will be getting married in May & the goal is to stock their bar for the wedding reception. We are all in the latter part of our 20's (just to give you an idea of the age range) I'm still in the very early planning stages of the party. However, I need to know what sort of gifts (besides liquor or beer) to ask the guests to bring for the couple. I'm also planning to list their favorite drinks, to make sure those supplies are covered. Is there anything else that I'm missing? - Little cups & bowls & small plates to put the nuts & cocktail snacks in.
- Other than the liquor itself, that looks like a very complete list. About all I can think to add are ice cube trays (if their fridge doesn't have an ice maker) or trays that make miniature or shaped ice cubes. Most people really prefer to drink alcohol from real glassware. Beer mugs or heavy beer glasses, some wine glasses intended for reds (broad bowl, wide mouth) and others made for whites (narrow bowl and mouth) and maybe champagne flutes might be nice to have. You can get quality wine glasses (and other glasses intended for bar use, like margarita glasses and martini glasses) at thrift shops. Visit once a week and scoop up the bargains, usually under a buck each. You (and another friend, perhaps) can present them with a party's worth of barware for a price you can afford. Run your finger around the lip to check for chipping, then wash and dry by hand, removing label and all traces of adhesive, to make them sparkle.
