Whatever happened to wine coolers? In the beginning, there was the wine cooler, and it was good. I love mixing wine with other drinks like iced tea and fruit drinks. But somewhere along the way, we were betrayed. What used to be called "wine coolers" were now just "coolers". Examine the label and you'll see that they are a "flavored malt beverage" or "flavored beer". What happened? Why no more wine? Did it merely become cheaper to make "flavored beer" than genuine wine coolers?

If beer and wine coolers (in general) are the same alcohol percentage, why do you more feel the effects ofbeer? After 4 beers you should at least feel a buzz, how come wine coolers aren't the same?

Bartles & James used to make "wine coolers" too; now the only ones I see in that brand are the flavored malt ones. These are fruit flavored, such as strawberry or melon, not marketed as being anything related to beer.
