Wine Accessories Gifts Knowledge Base
Opening a wine shop...any suggestions? First of all I love wine, I don't think we have any wine shops where I am from just regular liquor shops. I would like to sell wine, cheese, wine Accessories, and gifts. Would this be a good idea? Or probably not with this economy? Any suggestions on how to get started would be great!
How would I approach this? OK, so I've been crafting these beautiful lighted wine bottles and they truly are beautiful...Everywhere i take them people rave about them. My website is www.vineyardilluminations.com. Anyways my question is...there is a store in my area that sells all kinds of wines and wine gifts and accessories and such...I feel that my bottles would sell GREAT there! How would I go about approaching the store to inquire if I may sell my bottles there? Any info would be great!! ETA: This IS a national company. They are franchised.
Groomsmens Gifts? I am looking for ORIGINAL ideas for my groomsmen’s gifts under $30. Cigar , Scotch, and Wine accessories are my first thoughts but nothing has jumped out yet. I typed "groomsmen gifts" in yahoo or Google but only came up with garbage or gifts out of my price range. Any ideas?
Drinking white wine: tips & gadgets? My dad's drink of choice -- almost exclusively -- is white wine. I am looking for Xmas gifts for him, so I'm hoping to buy him something to improve his white wine experience. He already has a top of the line corkscrew. Now I know nothing about white wine, always been a red wine sort of lass myself, but I know for red there are some "wine accessories", like aerators, that you can get fancy with. Is there anything out there other than a corkscrew that one can buy to improve the white wine experience? Or any brands of Chardonnay that you'd give as a gift? Thanks!

What is a good accessory to compliment a bottle of wine as a wedding gift? A really close relative is getting married in one month, and I have most of the gift put together. I bought a wine chest to hold 6 bottles of wine. http://www.winestuff.com/cgi-bin/sh000013.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ewinestuff%2ecom%2facatalog%2f&WD=chest%20treasure&PN=Six_Bottle_Treasure_Island_Travel_Case%2ehtml%23aW600#aW600 And on each bottle I am making a tag, one for their 1st year anniversary, one for 2nd year ann. one for 5th, one for 10th, and one for first child (+1). However the chest holds 6 bottles and I only have 5. Should I add another bottle and include another tag? If so, what? Or, does anyone have any ideas of what could fill that last spot? It measures about 4 inches by 4 inches. The couple is planning on having children. We have known them for 23+ years (the groom anyway). He was raised with my husband. If for any reason they were unable to get pregnant, they would either (1) adopt or (2) get another dog, which if that's the case, they can use it then? I could just simply put "+1 Addition to the family"?
Do you think this is a good idea for a business? I am creating a business plan for a project in one of my management classes. My idea is a wine store. In this store, there would be both domestic and imported wines from around the world. So, my goal would be to offer a greater selection than the average beer/wine store offers. Also, in this store, I can include things that go well with wine such as different cheeses (there are many) and fruits, a huge selection of accessories, as well as a wine gift selection, and equipment rental. I can offer occasional wine sampling, too.... So, it would be more like a one-stop wine outlet store that offers things for many people and occasions. Do you think if the location is right, the business would work? Thanks! Thanks for the input and the helpful advice! I think it is a creative idea. I can't imagine why it wouldn't be a successful business if it is in the right location..
Survey:- Which one of these services do you think you would want the most or is most in demand? I have to narrow down the list of services that a business has to offer at least for the first year? So tell me which one of these services would you want to be available or which ones do you think there will be a great demand for??? 1. Wedding cakes or party cakes made out of whole cheeses and decorated beautifully? 2. Wine and champagne fountains for weddings and parties? 3 Chocolate fountains with an accompanying display of fruits, cakes etc. to be dipped? 4. Fruit and vegetable carvings and sculptures to awaken buffets at weddings and parties? 5. A photo guest book with a photographer to take instant photos at your event while your guest write their comments? 6. Wedding favors, gifts and accessories? 7. Gif baskets (fruit, cheese&wine, Cheese&meat, chocolate&candy etc)? 8. Corporate drop off catering (boxed breakfast, lunches and assorted platters)?
Christmas gift for a model train fanatic? My ex's father is one of those people that have every model train accessory possible. I'm going to try to be a good guy this Christmas and get each of the family something nice (the mother likes to drink, so easy present (wine, vodka - that is the question). However if I buy a present for one of the family sides, I think it would only be fair to by a cheap gift for both sides. This should be around the $10 mark, no more. Any ideas?
Any great birthday gift ideas for my husband? He is SO difficult to buy for. I can't buy him clothes...he's too picky about his clothes. He's into wine, chocolate, music, collector muscle cars, computers, and is an executive/frequent traveler. I've run out of original ideas on these angles. I even gave him a wine club once. I've bought him every possible professional / travel accessory I could think of......for previous gifts. I'm out of ideas! Any suggestions?
Reasonable enough? $8k for a wedding? Well! I have gone through just about every venue in the area and realized I would have to cut the guest list (down to 60-65), and have the wedding in a smaller venue on a Sunday. I chose a house. Here is how I worked out the budget and my fiancee and I aren't exactly in agreement (he thinks we're still spending too much) so I would like some expert answers. No sharp criticism please! Just honest answers! Venue: $3,000 - includes tables, chairs, linens, centerpieces, and ceremony Dinner: $1,100 - this is an at most estimate for dinner and beverages Cakes: $375 - hopefully we can get this down too Photography: $900 - tax included and I'm set on her, she is great and will do the entire event Flowers $275 - Bouquets, Corsages, Boutonnieres, etc. Wine/Beer $200 - We'll only need one keg I believe Dress $680 - this is the balance of the dress, veil, tiara, petticoat Shoes $30 Tux $60 Accessories $60 Bridal Party Gifts $150 - 4-6 attendants Minister $275 Invitations $70 - I'm doing my own Hair/Makeup/Nails $185 Favors $35 - Candy! Rings $400 Postage $30 - I already have half of what we need Extras $120 - Flutes, Guest Book, etc. Flower Girl Dress $100 - I'm the mother Sparklers $35 We're going on a honeymoon and spending $4k for four or so days in St. Lucia but did not include that in the $8k. It'd be $12k with everything. Thanks for answers, especially if you took the time to read all of this! I have been engaged 5 months and couldn't find another venue that cost less than $8k, so doing it all for this much would be fantastic! Oh! DJ is free, my friend is going to play is iPod. There is a PA system :) Wine for non drinkers? Wine is in the list, but there will be tea and lemonade as well. There will be no need for transportation, and when we leave, we'll use our own car. It's white... haha perfect! The 'venue' is a house built 20 years ago to resemble an older french chateau. It seats 70 guests. The charge is $1700 for Sunday, $240 for two security guards, $1000 refundable deposit and 6.25% tax. The dinner is $10 a person chicken or pasta and I hear great things. I'm using preferred vendors, and that helps. The tea is $50, the lemonade is $50... then of course there is service charge and tax... I estimated high. Here in my area, the venues all cost more than food... one place wanted $4k to rent (not including the ceremony) and $12 a person for dinner and drinks. Maybe just the venues I THOUGHT I could afford. I did see some asking for $39 for the meal... and a low rental... but then it still costs about the same haha... Jellybeanchick, these are estimates. Not actual prices. But I am going to do my best to stay within them. $1,100 covers food and non-alcoholic beverages. $200 is for a keg and some wine. I'm not having champagne and whatnot. Just a bottle for our own little toast. A keg contains about 140 cups of beer or so. 60 guests and at least 10 of them are kids. Also not everyone will WANT beer. I'm using her candle displays and will make my own flower arrangements.

Our Menu Food: sandwichs fruit salad fried eggs Drinks: Punch mix (lemonade/orange) Water Orange juice Accessories: birthday plates camera candles gifts banners cups Time and place: noon will be a surprise

He's 25, he's in the navy, he likes music (has an iPod), loves sports (he's a Patriots/Red Sox/Celtics/Bruins fan), he isn't really into video games or movies or clothes... So any ideas? Thanks for your help!
Okay, we're probably going to change the date to a Sunday, is this a good budget? $12,500 is the total, honeymoon included. This is my plan: PLATINUM PACKAGE 80 guests $6,247.74 (tax and service included) Ballroom (5.5 hr event time + 2.5hr setup) (I have no idea why they give so much time) Access to Cocktail Area / Game Room Access to Patio & Gazebo Area / Ceremony Site Access to Bridal Suite 1 Security Officer (I am keeping him/her for personal reasons) Banquet Chairs and Round Banquet Tables Chair Cover with Sash (color of choice) Table Cover with Overlay (color of choice) Skirted Head, Cake, Gift, and Registration Table Centerpiece – Glass Candle Holder on Mirror (she is upgrading it for free!) Ceiling Drapery Décor China, Glassware, and Flatware Linen Napkins (standard selection) Professional Bussing Staff Full Service Setup and Cleanup Dinner Buffet with Menu Option A Entrée (choice of 1) Starch Side Dish (choice of 1) Vegetable Side Dish (choice of 1) Salad (choice of 1) Rolls and Croissants / Tortillas Water with Ice Tea or Fruit Punch They are also setting up the outside area for guests who smoke, and giving me a deal of $150 for a fruit tree or platter and a small chocolate fountain. The venue also comes with a pool table and tvs for entertainment while we're taking pictures since it is all indoors. Now, am I missing anything from below? We're not using a limo, please don't suggest one lol $680 dress, veil, tiara, petticoat, and undergarments $350 flowers (just six attendants total for us and then our moms, his dad, and my grandparents) $100 invitations, place cards, tags (I'm getting printing for free) $50 candy bag favors (tulle bags with M&Ms in our colors, no print) $450 wine (3-4 bottles per table, it's not a sit down dinner) $300 cakes (friend is doing them for $1/slice, cutting is $1/person) $40 ‘wishing’ tree (manzanita branches and tags for wishes) $200 bride/groom pampering (nails, hair, makeup and his haircut and whatnot) $30 shoes (I'm a good shoe shopper) $950 photography (this includes 5-6 hrs, and a CD, and I think bridals and engagements as well) $275 minister (eh, I'm trying to get a friend to do this) $315 wedding party gifts (once again, small WP) $30 bridal jewelry (found a great set at DBs) $60 groom’s accessories (shoes, and whatnot) $30 postage $70 knife/cake serving set, flutes, guestbook (buying online) $50 flower girl basket and ring bearer pillow $2,500 honeymoon (not sure about this yet) We may actually have more room to save now that we're waiting a couple more weeks than planned. So does this look okay for a budget? Am I missing anything? = $12,727.74 $249.74 over budget! Janice are you high? $950 for a photographer is not bad? I did WORST case scenario here. Least amount saved, with the most I would pay towards each thing. I'm not saying we want to spend that much at all. It's just a figure! I'm $250 over, but we have two more weeks to save now, and we might have raises or bonuses before that time. We might only spend $200 on flowers or $500 on a photographer. It's just an estimate. I wanted to know if I left anything off? The honeymoon is big because we are going to an island. I keep hearing that I am spending too much on the reception and not enough on the honeymoon and now here is the opposite?! We are also staying in an upscale hotel in a large city the night of the wedding. Sooooo... Oh! My friend is going to DJ, they are also setting the mood lights and colors to auto so we can enjoy something without having to pay $75. Well some of the pricing I gave you I already had in the total. Sorry if I confused you. I've gone over it three times and I am not wrong there. I love the tips. I will definitely try to do as much myself. I am going to serve one glass per person for dinner (wine) great suggestion! I just need to find a white and red as an option maybe. Depends on the dinner I assume. Red is an aquired taste, but I enjoy it myself. As I said, this is just to get an idea. I'd love to spend less on each item. I just broke it down using my own judgement instead of percentages. They didn't work for me considering the bulk of things is already included in the package. I am going to have a small rehearsal hopefully. Probably have my family make dinner since they are dying to make dinner for the wedding, they can do this instead and I would save a lot of money have it at someone's home. Thanks again! Oh and to the answerer about the postage, I'm assuming I live in a more expensive area than you. The only other place cheaper (and decent - ie not a living room in a house or a church) was $3,300 NOTHING included. Just to rent! I am not sure about attaching postage yet, but at any rate, my #'s include dates for each person and some are large families. I'm not getting personalized M&Ms, no way. The tulle bags are maybe 20 cents each. I'm not filling them to the brim either. I want to offer something edible without hassle, but without overdoing it. I hear a lot of favors get left. I never noticed favors myself. A dinner with friends is enough for me and most the people I associate with feel the same.
Any specific christmas gift ideas for a 40 year old man? I'm trying to think of a Christmas gift for my fiancee - and would love to get some specific ideas! ** He's already got tons of computer games, an iphone, GPS, Nintendo DS, ipod, all the latest gadgets. ** He's a huge coffee and wine enthusiast, Though he's already got the fancy coffee/ cappachino machine and all kinds of accessories. I thought about getting him one of those wine storage things, but when I tested the idea he didn't seem to thrilled about that. ** He's also a huge european history buff so maybe something related to that might be a good idea. ** Last year I made him a coffee mug, so maybe I can make him something else. ** Also we now live in different states until next April, so perhaps something that can keep us connected. ** He also LOVES cheese (he's French :). Got any specific ideas for me? I'm hoping to spend less than $200 but if it's a really good idea I might be willing to spend more. THANKS
Is it tacky to give a similar gift two months later? I bought my sister and her husband a Wii Points card for their birthdays (two days apart, so I got a card for both of them). They loved it and are very much into playing Wii. That was two months ago. Is it tacky to give the same gift again lol? I just don't know what else to get them, and they really liked that gift. They don't really do anything other than watch shows they've Tivo'd and play Wii. I can't get them wine because they don't drink, I've already given the Blockbuster pack (movie voucher, popcorn, etc.) in previous years, and stuff like that. What else could I get them? They already have a lot of the Wii accessories, otherwise I'd do that. Janet...Wii Points are virtual currency you can use to buy games and misc bs on the Wii online store built into the Wii. So you can buy a game with the points, download it, and play it. They sell cards at gamestop, best buy, etc. preloaded with $20 worth of Wii Points.

I am completely at a loss on Christmas ideas...help!? I have quite a few people I need to buy for this year, but don't really have an idea of what or where to start. If I tell you a little bit about the people, could you help me think of presents that might work? My budget is pretty open. Fiance: Already ordered him a Roku netflix player - need another idea, too. He's a complete and total movie freak. He's also really into martial arts, running, cooking, travel, and music. He already has all the clothes/shoes/accessories that he wants. He also really enjoys camping and the outdoors. He wanted a kayak, but we have no place to store that in our condo. He's a videographer by profession, so anything related to that would be good, but would also probably be more than I can afford. Any ideas? Father: No idea. Help! He's very much a guy's guy, and loves woodworking and lathe work, and motorcycles (BMW - he's not a Harley guy or a biker type - just likes to ride.) He also likes music to some degree. Fiance's mother: Again, help me. She already HAS everything she could possibly want, and has everything she could want/need to decorate her home. She runs a franchise jewelry business, and travels a LOT. She's really kind of a fun-spirited hippy chick. I like her. :-) Fiance's Father/Stepmom: This is what's particularly stumping me. They are very well traveled and affluent - it's truly a 'what to get the couple who has everything' question. They work together as a team in higher education, travel all over the world constantly, and are highly interested in diplomacy, peace in the Middle East, and humanitarianism. My sister: She is married and has 6 children. She is a nurse, and so is her husband. I'd like to get a 'family present', so I don't have to buy 8. She's into Yoga a lot lately, and loves to read. My brother: Lives in Alaska with his wife and 16 year old daughter. He's a machinist, gun enthusiast, and hunter. He also loves motorcycles, snomobiling, and paintball. Read: Redneck. I would also like to get a 'family gift' for them as well. My aunt: We are visiting her over the holidays, and I'd like to give her a 'thank you' gift for having us. She is in her late 60's, and enjoys dogs, gardening, cooking, wine, and travel.
